Sell Your Old Stuff
This is one of my favorite ways to make extra cash. I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of old books and clothes sitting around taking up space. You can set up a stall on eBay or Amazon and sell them there, with shipping directly from your house. What’s better is you get paid in cash as soon as someone buys something! If you want an even more passive method that doesn’t require any ongoing work, check out Vinted!
Get Paid Through Everyday Activities
Believe it or not, there are a number of ways you can earn extra cash through everyday activities—and even if you’re already working a full-time job, there’s likely some room for hustling. Here are 10 jobs that pay you to sit around and do nothing . . . or just maybe think about doing something. The only thing better than getting paid to be bored is earning extra cash while making your eyes glaze over.
Create an Online Course
Offer something valuable, like your professional experience or knowledge, in exchange for monetary compensation. Create an e-course by curating content from across different sources and publish it on a platform like Udemy. If you’re an expert in a specific field, consider creating a course about it and selling it in places like Skillshare. If you want to go more technical and get into things like web development, then create an e-book or offer your services as a freelance developer via Elance.
Participate in Online Research
Participating in online market research is a great way to earn extra income and, who knows, maybe you’ll even discover something new about yourself. As an online research panel member, you’ll be invited to join surveys and discussions related to topical issues and industries. By joining as a member, you’ll get paid small amounts of cash that will add up over time. The site also has an extensive list of ways that members can earn extra income by referring friends or finding sponsored deals from companies like the Google Play Store. (Disclosure: I have tested several sites in this space and have yet to find one that can beat Swagbucks.)
Cash In On Rewards Programs
If you already have a credit card, you may be able to join certain reward programs. Programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards provide sign-up bonuses, cash back on select purchases, and other types of rewards. If your business takes a lot of expenses that can be reimbursed with a credit card, it may be worth looking into these types of programs to see if they're right for you.
Work From Home Jobs
If you’re not familiar with remote work or freelance jobs, they are part-time jobs that allow you to work from home. They are often much more flexible than traditional 9-to-5 jobs. For example, a full-time job may include a range of different hours and responsibilities over a week or month, but if your job is remote and part-time, you could choose what days and times you want to work each week. If you’re looking for part-time work, try searching remotely on one of these sites: FlexJobs, Contena, Freelancer. Some sites will require higher membership fees but others offer lots of potential opportunities without charge.
Use Apps To Earn Cash
An app you might not have heard of called Paribus does that tracking for you. If there are items in your online cart after you’ve left a retailer’s site, it emails you when there are price drops, saving you a substantial amount of cash. They seek out price adjustments from certain merchants and will get back an average of $8-$12 per claim.
Make Money From Watching Ads
Advertisers pay big bucks for your attention; you could be rewarded handsomely for giving it to them. Many companies will pay you a flat fee to watch their ads—anywhere from $5-$100 per hour. Others will pay a percentage of any sales or leads that come through those ads. You’ll have to apply to each company individually and work with your employer, but there are third-party sites like Gigwalk and Field Agent that will help connect you with companies looking to hire remote workers. And hey, it’s not a bad gig if you can get it. Don’t let people know what they're worth! Offer yourself out at less than minimum wage and see how many jobs they'll throw at you! That's right, go ahead and work for free! It's called experience. It's also called working in an unpaid internship... which is illegal. In fact, one of our contributors was actually sued by her former employer because she refused to do an unpaid internship. In some cases (like hers), interns are being exploited by employers who aren't paying them legally required wages. That said, in other cases, employers may genuinely want to offer students experience or training opportunities without having to fork over cash—so as long as you feel safe and comfortable with your situation, don't hesitate to take advantage of these opportunities. Remember: just because something is technically legal doesn't mean it's ethical. If something feels wrong, speak up about it.
